Things To Do
The Great Central Railway
The Great Central Railway is the countries only double tracked mainline heritage railway,
running through some of Leicestershire’s most beautiful countryside. Day tickets can be
purchased also the service runs award winning dining cars in the evenings. Steam Gala’s
and Wartime weekend are hosted over the year.
Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill is the second-highest point in Leicestershire and has unparalleled views looking
over the Charnwood Borough and the two neighbouring counties. Woodhouse Eaves sits at
the bottom of Beacon Hill so the walk only takes around 30 minutes from the village. There
is a graveled footpath that weaves up the hill through Forest and Grazing land. You will be
sure to see Alpaca’s and Highland Cattle grazing in the fields. The walk is steep but the
rewarding views at the end certainly make it worthwhile.
Bradgate park
Bradgate Park is a stunning country park, set over 850 acres, and is home to around 600 red
and fallow deer that can be seen grazing in the park. The park is also rich in history and was
the original home to Lady Jane Grey who had a short reign of Queen of England in 1537. The
ruins of the house are still on the park and are open for viewings.
Broombriggs Country Park
This Idyllic farm was generously gifted to Leicestershire County Council by the Frear family
in 1970 to ensure the protection of the beautiful countryside in Woodhouse Eaves. The farm
is made up of many small fields, woodland, and hedgerows. The fields are walled with
historic dry-stone walls, the remains of a windmill that was also a visiting point for Thomas
Cooks original day trips. Situated just a few minutes’ walk from the cottages this walk is a
must do.
Swithland Woods and Reservoir
The neighboring village of Swithland is just a mile walk, there is a paved footpath, or a
country walk through footpaths over fields and woodland running next to the great central
railway these footpaths give excellent views of the trains. Swithland is host to a 170 acre
wood with enchanting walks and wildlife, Swithland Reservoir is also beautifully located on
the edge of the village this a great place to watch Wildlife. The Griffin, Swithland’s only Pub
was voted Leicestershire best pub in 2019 and came top ten in a National Award for best
pubs to visit for walkers.
